1. What is a banner?

TOP

A banner is a graphic/object (other than just text) that is embedded into the HTML source code of a Web page. When the code supporting a particular banner is selected (below each banner) and then copied and pasted into the source code of a Web page, the code in turn will add the matching banner onto that Web page when viewed in a browser, with an active Internet connection. Once that is accomplished, the banner will then act like any other link does when clicked on. In this case, the banner links to www.no-regrets-tattoos.com.

2. Are the banners free?

Anyone can make use of, and add these banners to a Web page for free.

3. If I have an active No Regrets banner on my Web page, will I get a link to my Website placed on the No Regrets Website?

No. (It may be possible, but please don't expect it. Contact the shop if you are truly interested.)

4. 5 Step Instructions to add a No Regrets banner to your Webpage. (Little HTML experience required!)

TOP

With the No Regrets Link Web page open in a browser...

  • 1. Select which banner you would like to add to your Web page, and scroll down far enough below it so you can view the entire code that appears directly below it. (Code:)

  • 2. In a separate window, have the HTML source code for the page that you want the banner to appear on, open and available for you to edit and save the changes. I prefer Notepad or Dreamweaver, but any text editor will work.

  • 3. Select and highlight the banner code you see from step 1. (See image)

Code needed to add the banner seen above it is highlighted in white.

  • 4. With the code highlighted, Copy it (Ctrl+C).

  • 5. Last step Return to your Webpage source code. Locate in the code where you want to paste the banner code you just copied, place the cursor in the desired location and finally paste (Ctrl+V) the banner code in. Save the change to the Webpage source code and open the Webpage in a browser to view the results.

    • -Now, realize if you have little to no experience with HTML code, wherever you paste this code, the banner will actually appear on the page. (This is the only step that you need a little ability to read HTML code.) If you are inexperienced reading HTML code, you can experiment by pasting the copied code (Ctrl+V) somewhere in between the <body></body> "tags", save the change and then open the Webpage in a browser (once again with an active Internet connection), and see the results. If needed, you can then cut the code you just pasted into the Webpage source code back out (Ctrl+X) if you're not pleased with its' placement on the Webpage and re-paste the banner back into the Webpage source code again as needed until you get the desired placement on the Webpage.

FINALLY: Depending on the way your particular Website is set-up, if you are making changes to a local Webpage vs. a remote one, you may have to FTP the altered HTML file to your Webspace to make changes active on your Webpage. If you have no idea what I'm taking about, have followed these steps and already seen the changes take place to your Website, then disregard this note because it more than likely doesn't apply to you. BUT, If by some chance you have followed these steps repeatedly with no success, see question #5

5. I have followed the steps above repeatedly and have not been able to install a No Regrets Banner on my Webpage, or I am experiencing odd results. Can I get some help or technical support?

Probably not, but if you feel that your issues are being experienced due to problems on my end, or errors in source code, you can contact me, but other than the tested and working instructions provided in this FAQ, well you can try, but unless it is something I can easily remedy on my end, don't get your hopes up.

6. Can I make alterations to the banner code?

TOP

Absolutely, but do take into consideration...

  • - The banner codes are designed and written to easily implement a No Regrets Banner on a pre-existing Webpage, identical to what is seen both in appearance and functionality on the No Regrets Links page with little to no HTML coding experience. Any changes to the Banner code therefore, will have a direct effect on the appearance and functionality of the Banner, when seen installed on your Webpage.

  • - The banner codes are designed and written to easily implement a No Regrets Banner on a pre-existing Webpage, identical to what is seen both in appearance and functionality on the No Regrets Links page, with efficiency in mind. Only the bare essentials needed to make it appear and work are included in the code. Therefore, alterations and additions can be made, but the removal of code will more than likely cause them not to work properly. If inexperienced with HTML code, it is highly recommended (in any case) that you do not change code, if you do not understand the purpose of its' presence.

  • - When working with HTML code, and especially if relatively inexperienced, always keep a backup copy of the original before making changes. While making changes, save frequently and always preview your changes in a browser as you go to check for errors.
